Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is the John Elia Signature Belt made from genuine full grain leather?
Yes. This belt is made from full grain leather, the top grade of leather, where the natural grain is left intact. It is not bonded or faux leather. It also has an exclusive embossed pattern and a rust-resistant stainless steel buckle.
2. How do I choose the correct belt size?
The belt comes in 85, 95, 105, 115 and 125 cm. These are total belt lengths, not waist sizes. The easiest method is to measure a belt you already wear comfortably, from the buckle fold to the hole you use most. Alternatively, choose a belt about 5 cm longer than your trouser size, or check the size chart on the product page. If you are between sizes, go for the larger one. The belt is 3.6 cm wide and fits most standard belt loops.
3. Why choose full grain leather for this belt?
Full grain keeps the strongest, outermost layer of the hide, so the John Elia Signature Belt is built to last through daily wear. Over time the leather develops a natural patina, so it looks richer with age rather than worn out. It is also less prone to cracking and peeling than bonded or synthetic belts. To keep it in good condition, wipe it with a dry cloth and avoid soaking it.
4. Can I wear this men's leather belt with jeans, chinos and formal trousers?
Yes, for most outfits. It works well with jeans, chinos and business-casual trousers, and the subtle embossing adds character without looking busy. For a strict formal suit, a slimmer, plain belt is the safer choice. It comes in black and dark brown, so match it to your shoes: black with black, brown with brown.
5. What is the difference between full grain leather and bonded leather?
Full grain leather is a single piece of hide with its natural surface kept intact. Bonded leather is made from leather scraps and fibres glued together with a binder, usually with a coated surface. Bonded leather tends to peel and crack sooner, while full grain gets better with age. If a belt is described only as "bonded" or "faux", it is not full grain. The John Elia Signature Belt is made from full grain leather.
